Map of the West Midlands canals.

Stourport Ring  (One week)

The popular Stourport Ring offers a variety of canal and river cruising. The relaxing trip along the River Severn from Worcester to Stourport, with its automated locks operated for you, is one of the scenic highlights of the journey. The Staffs and Worcester is equally picturesque and leads you north to the restored Birmingham Canal Navigations and exciting city attractions. The ring is completed by following the Worcester and Birmingham Canal south back to the River Severn, a route shared with the Avon Ring.

Not To Be Missed

Birmingham; all the excitement of the UK’s Second City.

Stourport Basin; with wharves and clock tower, this is probably the finest example of an inland port in the UK.

Kidderminster; an ideal mooring point, maybe for a trip on the classic steam trains of the Severn Valley Railway.

Kinver; a photogenic, much visited port of call, once called the ‘Switzerland of the Midlands’.

Cadbury World, Bournville; the renowned museum, factory tours and shops of one of the world’s most famous chocolate brands.

Worcester; what better place for lunch or an overnight stay than under the great west window of this evocative, moving cathedral?

Avon Ring  (One week)

The River Avon joins with the winding River Severn at Tewkesbury, then heads toward Stratford-Upon-Avon where a turn north will take you to Lapworth. Here, you can cruise east to Warwick on the Grand Union Canal, or north to Birmingham on the Stratford-Upon-Avon canal, which joins with the Worcester Birmingham at Kings Norton. From here you may explore the city before heading back south to join again with the Severn at Worcester along the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, a route shared with the Stourport Ring.

Not To Be Missed

Birmingham; the Avon Ring leads to the Grand Union at Lapworth, from where you can reach this exciting city.

Tewkesbury; a great place to explore, with its Abbey and lanes of half timbered buildings, attractive shops and delightful riverside walks.

Stratford-Upon-Avon; deep into Shakespeare country, with many famous places to visit including the world renowned theatres.

Avoncroft Museum, Bromsgrove; a fascinating period collection of rescued buildings spanning 600 years of history, re-erected in a beautiful open air site.
